The Best Way to Tame Your Emotions is Using Mindfulness
Mindful breathing and staying in the moment are calming
We all experience emotions, both positive and negative, all day long.
Emotions can be powerful and overwhelming — leading you to make impulsive decisions that you later regret.
And emotions are contagious! Your emotions are impacting everyone else around you.
As a result, you may struggle to control your emotions and find it difficult to lead a peaceful and fulfilling life — even perhaps feeling unsafe in your own mind and body. And unsure in your closest relationships.
Helloooo mindfulness!
Mindfulness is a simple but powerful tool that can help you manage your emotions, reduce your stress, and lead a happier life.
I want to share my personal journey with mindfulness with you and how it has helped me tame my emotions. I hope my story inspires you to take your first step towards understanding and valuing mindfulness and helps you on your own journey towards emotional well-being.
Growing up, I was an emotional person. I would easily get frustrated, anxious, angry, or sad — and these emotions would often overwhelm me.
I now call it irritation escalation.
I would get irritated by small things as soon as I got out of bed each morning. Then those little annoyances would pile up to cause me to feel emotionally dysregulated or even emotionally hijacked.
I struggled to find peace and happiness, and I felt like I was always searching for something that was just out of reach.
This lasted through my teenage and college years.
It wasn’t until I discovered mindfulness that I was able to find the peace and happiness that I had always been seeking.
It’s been a journey
My journey with mindfulness began when I was going through some challenging times in my life. I was feeling emotionally overwhelmed and stressed, and I was searching for a way to find peace and calm in my life.
When I was a teenager, my negative overthinking and worry caused mr to develop a stomach ulcer. Well, actually the ulcer was in my duodenum — from all of the acid my system was secreting due to my stress.
My stress was actually eating at me.
And I had no ways or strategies to relieve my stress.
Some years later, I finally stumbled onto mindfulness and decided to give it a try.
At first, I was skeptical about the benefits of mindfulness. But after only a few days of practicing staying “in the moment” — I began to notice a difference in my emotions.
I was able to begin to NOT regret anything that happened in the past and NOT feel anxious about what could happen in the future.
Started focusing on my breathing and my senses when feeling stressed and started to master the art of mindfulness.
I became less easily frustrated and I felt more relaxed and at peace. The more I practiced mindfulness, the more I realized that it’s a powerful tool for “cooling my jets” — managing my emotions and reducing my stress.
Learning mindfulness
Mindfulness is all about being present in the moment and paying attention to your thoughts, feelings, and sensations without judgment.
No thinking about the past or future.
It’s about being acutely aware of what’s happening in your mind and body, and accepting these experiences for what they are. By doing this, you can gain a new perspective on your emotions and begin to see them as just temporary states that come and go.
One of the biggest benefits of mindfulness is that it helps you to become more aware of your emotions. You begin to realize your thoughts are not you — they’re just thoughts. They come and they go.
This increased awareness allows you to understand your emotions and to learn how to manage them more effectively. With mindfulness, you can learn how to recognize when you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or stressed — AND you can take steps to manage these emotions in a more positive way.
For example — when you feel stressed, you can use mindfulness to pause and take a deep breath. This will help you to calm down and to feel more in control of your emotions.
Deep, intentional breathing will calm both your mind and your body.
You can also use mindfulness to focus on positive thoughts and to remind yourself that your stress is just temporary. By doing this, you can reduce the impact of your stress and maintain a positive outlook.
In addition to reducing your stress, mindfulness can also help you to manage your emotions in other interesting ways.
For instance — if you’re feeling sad, you can use mindfulness to focus on your emotions and to allow yourself to feel the sadness without judgment. By doing this, you can process your emotions in a healthy way and move on from them more quickly.
Overall, mindfulness is a powerful tool that can help you to manage your emotions and lead a happier life. Whether you’re feeling stressed, anxious, or sad, mindfulness can help you to understand your emotions and to manage them in a more positive way.
If you’re new to mindfulness, there are many resources available to help you get started. You can attend mindfulness classes, read books or meditate on your own. There are also many apps and websites that offer guided mindfulness meditations and exercises, making it easy to incorporate mindfulness into your daily routine.
Try it now
Here are some simple steps to begin using mindfulness:
Start with breathing: Focus on your breathing and the sensation of air entering and leaving your body.
Pay attention to your surroundings: Observe your environment with curiosity and without judgment.
Accept your thoughts and feelings: Acknowledge and accept your thoughts and feelings without trying to change them.
Practice non-judgment: Avoid labeling experiences as “good” or “bad.” Instead, simply observe them with a non-judgmental attitude.
Stay in the present moment: Avoid dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. Focus on what’s happening right now.
Find a comfortable and quiet space: Pick a place where you can sit or lie down comfortably and minimize distractions.
Set a time for mindfulness: Start with just a few minutes a day and gradually increase the time as you become more comfortable with the practice.
Incorporate mindfulness into your daily routine: Find ways to integrate mindfulness into your daily life, such as taking mindful walks or mindful eating.
Keep in mind when practicing mindfulness to be patient and kind to yourself.
Mindfulness takes time and practice to develop, and it’s important not to get discouraged if you don’t see immediate results. Instead, focus on being present in the moment and enjoying the process of learning and growing.
Mindfulness is a powerful tool for managing your emotions and reducing your stress. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed or just looking for a way to lead a happier life — mindfulness can help you to find peace and happiness.
By being present in the moment and paying attention to your thoughts and emotions, you can gain a new perspective and learn to be more emotionally resilient.
For me — mindfulness has changed my life in so many ways.
I’m more in control of my emotions
